A man who was initially charged with accessory after the fact to murder in connection to Hashim Omar Hashi’s death is now wanted for first-degree murder, Toronto police say.
Hashi, 20, was shot and killed on Jan. 31 while he was attempting to drive his car into the garage of an apartment building at 40 Falstaff Ave.
Hashi’s car rolled and hit the closed underground garage doors because of the shooting.
The suspect vehicle, which was seen fleeing the scene eastbound on Falstaff, was located fully engulfed in flames at Earl Bales Park in North York.
Hashi was the city’s fifth murder victim of 2021.
Shortly after the murder, Emmanuel Missah, 24, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder and failing to comply with recognizance.
Hassan Ali, 22, of Toronto was arrested in Windsor and charged with accessory after the fact to murder and numerous drug offences.
Ali, also known as Top 5 in Toronto’s underground rap scene, is now wanted for first-degree murder and three counts of failure to comply with recognizance.
The Toronto Star, toronto.com’s sister outlet, reports Ali was released from custody in late March and was living under house arrest with electronic monitoring. A police source said Ali was asked to turn himself in, but cut off his ankle bracelet and fled.
