Toronto police searching for alleged arsonist after string of fires

Toronto police are asking for your help finding an alleged arsonist they say was behind several fires throughout the city.

They’re looking for Sheldon Carter, 36, of Toronto.

According to officers, Carter set a fire in a back alley near Woodbine Avenue and Danforth Avenue on July 11.

Security camera footage captured a man lighting a large piece of cardboard, then propping it up against a garage door before taking off.

On July 20 and 22, police say Carter was seen peeling decals off of a building’s front window in the same area.

Then, on August 3, around 2:55 a.m., officers say Carter approached some dumpsters behind the Woodbine and Danforth area building and used an object to light them on fire.

Investigators say Carter came back again on August 5 around 5:20 p.m.

This time, he used a lighter to set some trash on fire before leaving on foot.

He’s wanted for three counts of arson and two counts of mischief under $5,000.

Officers describe Carter as 6′ tall and 210 lbs. with a slim build, brown eyes, short hair and a short beard.

He is known to hang around the Moss Park area of Toronto.

If you see him or know where he’s hiding out, call police at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
